The Buchanan Arms Restaurant Review

At this plaid-covered bastion of hearty pub fare, begin with some banger bits to accompany your Newcastle or maybe a bowl of smooth, rich “Cock-A-Leeky” soup. The shepherd’s pie makes a fine dinner, and you can take home the other half for lunch tomorrow. If you’re an aficionado of organ meat, the steak and kidney pie is sure to please. Just pace yourself, so you can finish your meal with the...

A little slice of Britain in the middle of Burbank, this homey pub is filled with plaid-topped tables and images of Winston Churchill and the Royal Family. Enjoy some very respectable fish ‘'n' chips, bangers and mash, and a Scotch meat… Read More

Decent place, would come again. The food was yummy, and while I'm not a drinker it looked like they had a good selection of beer.

Old school style pub that offers the right ambiance, food, and service. We arrived on a Saturday morning right after they opened up. So, it was very quiet and empty. We ordered the Chicken Strips (daughter), Monte Cristo (wifey), and Fish & Chips (me!). Two of the meals came with soup, one of which …

We started with the Mulligatawney soup, and then we had fish and chips, the banger bits and a sausage roll and bridie for our mains. Dalena: The cod was great. It was cooked well and it was really firm. I didn't care for the peas and carrots; I felt that they were just plate fillers. The bridies were great. …

It was quiet when we went on Labor Day evening, but the food was excellent. Some standard English Pub fare. Everything was tasty and the beer was cold.

I come not just for the great food but the excellent service. Sonia has made the bar a hot spot for the regulars in the neighborhood. She has a knack for brining people together. Thanks for making my Saturday nights!

Cadbury's chocolates are back! Hence spending a lot of money in the shop. Bangers were o.k., could have been a bit spicier. My husband enjoyed his fish'n'chips. Reasonably priced for the LA area, friendly service.

Friend asked me to meet him here for dinner. Balked at first....a pub on Burbank Blvd in Burbank??? But, there is an extensive menu and an extensive beer and ale menu as well. Plus, a relaxing pub feel to the experience. The Guinness French Onion soup was tremendous. Then, there was the 70's music and the singing. Welcome to Pub...

I lucked into going to Buchanan Arms on a night when they had music, and it was just a great time all of the way around. The service was excellent, and the food good (although the fried foods were a bit too greasy, perhaps this is the nature of British fried foods, however). The bangers were great. Old school since 1977. I ordered the Shepherd's Pie which seems to be as popular as the Fish & Chips. I could've shared this plate since it was more than enough food for me, I actually took a doggy bag home. I like this neighborhood English pub, especially the old school look to it. When we visit our son in Burbank, we always try to have a meal at this pub. They serve standard British pub food - fish'n'chips, sausages and mash, as well as a small but varied menu. 25 years and for good reason. Fish & Chips or Shepherds Pie you can't go wrong either way. The servings are always enormous and you can wash it all down with one of many British beverages. Occasionally, and you'll have to check their schedule for the live band performances that occur from time to time.

This is a pretend British pub but the servers are friendly and the food is quite good, but not fancy. Two of us had fish and chips and I had a huge plate of bangers and mash. Everyone enjoyed their food and we bought some candy from the adjacent British food shop (a bit pricey but imported goods always are).

Went there for the fish & chips. It was good, and I think it's better if you ask for the fish to be cooked well done. They give you a choice of soup or salad, and I've tried the chicken enchilada and the Mulligawtany. They were both very good. I heard one other diner say that the cock a leekie...

They have a wee shoppe next to the pub so if you're looking for British supplies, they can help you there. Check out the specials for lunch at the pub! The pints are proper and the service is on point. Some nights they have meetings and events so it can get a wee bit loud. But it's a pub not a library. Cheerio!

Last night April 27, 2010, was my first visit to Buchanan Arms. I'm sorry I didn't know the place was there sooner as it was a great experience. The food (the waiter recommended the fish and chips) was great with mouth watering fresh fish. The staff are more than friendly. Good for the family. Buchanan is a great pub for a more relaxed, low-key evening. Great for the whole family, or a night at the bar. For a British pub, this place is always a good time. Admittedly, it's not the newest or cleanest looking place, and the food ranges from pretty good to only fair. These people use the best quality fish when making their fish and chips. A great selection of beer. What else do you need?

Buchanan Arms is on par with the best that Southern California has to offer...The Cat & Fiddle Pub and Ye Old King's Head. Yes, there is a difference between being a Scotish and English pub and restaurant. Bottom line is that the service and hospitality is always first rate.

Please... it's Scottish, not English. They are two separate countries, and there IS a difference!

a fun place to go,especially on Beatle night. The band Imagine they had was great!!!!

The friendliest place in the area and the owners obviously care about their customers. The clientele are mostly locals, but a I have met and interacted with some very famous british stars here. Being a media center city, many artists are looking for a place to have `back home` food, and Buchanan offers that.

The British food is almost perfect, if they are going to serve British food they need to make sure the mash potato is real not Instant Mash and the gravy needs to be a little bit thicker, also please pe-el the spuds before roasting them other than that the place is a blessing in disguise I will frequent many more times for a good ole hearty meal.

P.S Good luck if you think you will have room...

Also please * bad teal the spuds before roasting them other than that the place is a blessing welcome retreat from USA restaurants and I will frequent for a good ole hearty meal (edited)

A touch of merry old England is what Buchanan offers to its clientele. The restaurant/pub experience is brought to light with its menu of bangers, steak, kidney pie, and fish and chips. There`s plenty of ale and Guinness on tap, and weekends bring live entertainment in the form of folk performers. This is a great place to get the feel of the foggy U.K. in smoggy Los Angeles.
